Would You Rather Have A Back Problem or a Brain Problem?

By having bad posture, essentially a mechanical dysfunction in our spine, we are limiting our brains function due to the impact on our nervous system.  But how badly are we impacting our brains by spending so much time sat down or in bad posture?

Recent research reveals a significant relationship between posture and health markers, such as breathing and heart rate, on pain and disability.  Even with small changes to posture, such as upper back rounding and forward head position, all health markers were impacted negatively. This clearly demonstrates the relationship between poor spinal hygiene and its implications on human health, and non-musculoskeletal physiology.

“90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine,” explains Dr. Roger Sperry, Nobel Prize recipient for brain research.  “Better than 90 percent of the energy output of the brain is used in relating the physical body in its gravitational field. The more mechanically distorted a person is, the less energy available for thinking, metabolism, and healing.”

Our brains feed our body, so we need to get up and move! Use this as a reminder to get up and walk about right now, even for just 1 minute!
