Top 5 Health Books

Here we share with you five top health books to celebrate ‘Book Lover’s Day’ on the 9th of August.

1.‘How to Eat, Move and Be Healthy’ by Paul Check

This book is a blueprint into what to put into your body and how to move for your body type. It has questionnaires to help you design your lifestyle to reach your goals and potential. The nature of the questions encourages you to learn how to listen to your body, to be able to provide it with the goodness it really needs. With plenty of examples of movement and meal combinations all based upon your unique body.

2.‘Breath’ by James Nestor

This book gives us an excellent insight into the power of our breath and how it can affect everything from your sleep to your jaw! We take around 25,000 breaths a day, but what are the consequences of how we breathe?
This is a real eye opener in to using small ‘hacks’ to get the best out of your body. If you are interested in the power of breath, some scientific studies and how you can use this information in your day-to-day life, this is a must-have read.

‘Own The Day, Own Your Life’ by Aubrey Marcus

This book looks at how all the things we do, incrementally add up throughout time, and how can we make small changes, daily, to improve our health and performance.

Aubrey takes a holistic approach to health, whilst leaning toward habit formation, that is simple and effective, to get more out of your body. There are examples of workouts, stretches, diet advice… and for all those things that could affect your health daily, he includes a handy tip or trick.

‘Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers’ by Robert M. Sapolsky

This book is insightful into just how stress can affect the body. We release hormones related to stress, though don’t deal with them in the same way as we were designed to. So, what happens over time? Well, the answers are inside… and it’s also why Zebras don’t get ulcers.

Understanding how stress can affect your sleep, weight gain and stress management is the first step to controlling it (which he does give advice on how to do). This book is both informative and yet light-hearted.

‘Why We Sleep’ by Matthew Walker

This book will help you understand something we all need, daily, that can take up around a third of your life… sleep! It investigates the research behind sleep, what short- and long-term effects are on cognitive and physical performance.

Walker talks you through why we have different sleep patterns and why teenagers have different – and more – sleep requirements. Find out how sleeping pills really work and get tips for people struggling with sleep quality or insomnia. We have used a lot of these great tips to help with our own quality and quantity of sleep, so yes, we really know how much they can help!
